I do like a good widget. Especially one that is ever so simple to install and use and reduces the need to start hard coding and ftp-ing. So imagine my (extremely nerdy, I know) excitement when I found a lovely Google +1 widget for wordpress created by Manchester based SEO agency Pleer SEO!
Google +1 is very similar to the Facebook Like button but where you see your Facebook friends likes in your news feed, you see your Google contacts’ +1′s in your search results (when you are logged in). So it’s another personal vote of approval, your friend is saying “I’ve seen this and I liked it” and if that person is someone who’s opinion you trust you might be more inclined to click it. Google says it will use the +1′s made by your contacts to further personalise your results. I’m not really a fan of customised search results if I’m honest but the average joe doesn’t know how to turn them off so it’s something we really can’t ignore. Read more about Google +1 at webmaster central.
The Google +1 WordPress widget allows you to auto insert the +1 on pages, posts and the homepage (depending on how you have set your wordpress blog up), the last option didn’t work on mine but that’s no problem because you can also use a shortcode to insert it as a text widget which you can see in action on the top right. Easy peesy lemon squeezy.
So big thanks to Pleer for my personal favourite WP widget of the month, it saved me valuable time today
